President Letter - 2016Updated Tuesday March 1, 2016 by OYO.
Dear New OYO Family:
WELCOME TO OYO!
Thank you for registering your child to play baseball or softball with the Oaklandon Youth Organization (OYO). On behalf of my colleagues on the OYO Board of Directors, I welcome you to our league. Regardless if your child is playing softball or baseball for the first time or simply coming to OYO from a different league, we want to help you make a smooth transition to our program. Just like going to a new school, starting a new job, or moving into a new neighborhood, playing at a new ballpark is an adjustment. We hope this welcome packet makes your transition go a little smoother.
We encourage you to learn more about OYO at our exclusive New Family Orientation on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Jenn Park, 10450 East 63rd Street in Lawrence. This meeting is for parents, but your children are welcome if you are unable to secure childcare/babysitting arrangements.
In 1975, OYO opened its first season of playing baseball on a single field at a nearby elementary school. We continue to grow at Veterans Memorial Park, a 13-field, two-concession stand/restroom complex. Every spring, summer, and fall, you can enjoy watching more than 1,500 girls and boys playing ball at our park. As parents, you can enjoy many memories and new friendships with more than 1,000 families. The league is organized and operated by an all-volunteer board of over 40 volunteers – parents just like you.
Over the years, from board to board, coach to coach, team to team, and fan to fan, there has been one steady formula for how OYO operates – we call it “The OYO Way.” It defines our community. It shapes the OYO Family, which you and your ballplayer will now experience. We hope our commitment to your family provides a positive, memorable experience for your child.
